Peppermint essential oil is one of the most versatile of essential oils. It is often referred to as a ‘Universal Oil’ due to its many uses and wideranging benefits. It's an essential oil that is essential to any home apothecary or first aid kit for the wide range of uses and benefits, which you can read about, below.

Essential oil of Peppermint is widely used as a 'pick-me-up', energizer, refresher and pain reliever. It's many uses include digestive support, headache relief, and more.

Peppermint is a flavor that is widely used for teas, candies, breath fresheners and beverages - although the flavoring for such products is often simply a chemical imitation of the pure essential oil of the peppermint plant.

BACKGROUND

Peppermint essential oil is the consumate mult-tasker - wearing many 'hats'. It's uplifting, cooling, and refreshing in nature, while also effectively releiving pain, fever, congestion, boosting energy and more.

Perhaps best known for its influence on the digestive system, Peppermint can be used to address several complaints at once.

It is particularly helpful in reducing flatulence and lessening swelling from injury. It has a particular capacity to oxygenate the blood, which is what enables it to be so effective in treating headaches, stress, and depression.

Peppermint is a mental, as well as physical, stimulant and encourages study without the development of mental fatigue. Diffusion is helpful to assist in staying alert when studying or doing book work.

You can also put several drops into a car diffuser when driving long distances to help you stay awake and alert.

Menthol, which is present in abundance in Peppermint oil, helps in clearing the respiratory tract. It is an effective expectorant and therefore provides rapid relief in many respiratory cases including nasal congestion, sinusitis, asthma, bronchitis, cold and cough. As a result, it is used as an ingredient in many chest and cold preparations. When the cold preparations are applied to the chest, they typically relieve nasal and respiratory congestion rapidly.

Mentally and emotionally, Peppermint provides relief from stress, depression and mental exhaustion due to its refreshing nature. It is also effective against anxiety and restlessness.

It can be helpful with skin care needs such as in an acne treatment, or to address scabies and ringworm.
